The front page, headline story in The Tennessean this week was "Bill: Define mother, father, husband, wife by biology." It has already generated a firestorm of controversy in some circles. Read more...

  Prayers for Inauguration Day
The 58th Presidential Inauguration is today with swearing-in ceremonies starting at 11:30 a.m. EST in Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Capitol. Please take a moment to pray for President-elect Trump, Vice President-elect Pence, and the entire White House staff.
TN Joins in Fight for Bathroom Privacy and Safety
Tennessee has joined 18 other states and two governors in an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in G.G. v. Gloucester, the case involving whether the word "sex" in Title IX can be interpreted to encompass "gender identity" thereby requiring schools to force students to share bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers with members of the opposite biological sex.
TN General Assembly Considers Bill Defining 'Mother' and 'Father'
Sen. Bowling and Rep. Ragan are sponsoring a bill that would clarify in Tennessee law that the terms "mother," "father," "husband," and "wife" are to be given their natural, ordinary meaning based on biology. Since the Obergefell decision, many courts have sought to "reinterpret" what some words mean despite no legislative intent or history to support such an action. It is important for the Legislature to clear up this confusion.
Women's March on Washington Is Not for All Women
Liberal women's groups may tout that they are inclusively for all women, but they aren't inclusive for women who consider themselves pro-life, even if they also claim to be feminists. Pro-life group New Wave Feminists was accepted as a partner with the Women's March on Washington set for this Saturday, but after The Atlantic unveiled that New Wave Feminists is actually pro-life and other liberals got wind of it, Women's March on Washington broke the partnership and issued an apology on social media for erroneously partnering with an "anti-choice organization."
  Abortion Rate Lowest Since 'Roe'
The abortion rate is at the lowest it has ever been since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. According to a recent report by the Guttmacher Institute, the rate as of 2014 stands at 14.6 percent. "Though we've still quite a ways to go to restoring full legal and moral respect for the unborn, this is a critical milestone, getting below 1 million abortions for the first time since 1975," says Randall O'Bannon, director of education and research for the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund. Pro-lifers are hopeful that Trump's pro-life stance will lead him to appoint pro-life Supreme Court judges and that the trend toward saving the unborn will continue.
Lesbian Couple to Co-Pastor Baptist Church
Though not the first homosexuals to ever be hired by a Baptist church, Sally Sarratt and Maria Swearingen will be the new lesbian "married" co-pastors at the 155-year-old Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. The church cut ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, which believes homosexuality is wrong, in 2012.
Vandy, Duke Want 'Inclusive' Language at Divinity Schools
The divinity schools at both Duke and Vanderbilt have asked their professors to use more inclusive, gender-neutral terms, particularly as it applies to God. Duke even goes so far as referring to God as "Godself" instead of "He" to avoid the use of masculine nouns and pronouns.
Fetal Heartbeat Bill Introduced to Congress
Iowa Rep. Steve King introduced the Heartbeat Protection Act of 2017 to U.S. Congress, which would make it illegal to perform an abortion if a fetal heartbeat is detected except in cases where the mother's life is in danger. A similar bill was vetoed in Ohio by Gov. Kasich.
Senior Citizens' Bible Study Temporarily Stopped by Homeowners Association
One resident complained about the worship services and Bible studies that a group of Bakersfield, Calif., senior citizens were holding at the community clubhouse, and the community's homeowners association banned the group from conducting any more religious activities. The Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) filed a suit, claiming that the senior citizens were unfairly targeted since other groups were free to use the clubhouse facilities. The HOA has reversed its decision, but PJI is seeking full injunctive relief to protect the rights of these senior citizens.
Think Twice About Girl Scout Cookies
If you are tempted to buy Girl Scout cookies this year, you should consider what the organization advocates. Read this resource from former Planned Parenthood clinic director now pro-life advocate Abby Johnson. She shows the link between the youth club and various pro-abortion entities.
